CS 304: Hockey Podcast Community
Hi everyone, my apologies for the lateness of my post. My name is Keenan, and I am a fourth-year communications Studies student. One use of technology that has made a significant impact I'm my life is podcasts. My favourite is "The Winged Wheel Podcast," a hockey podcast covering the Detroit Red Wings, a professional NHL team. The hosts, Ryan Hanna, Brad Krysko and Evan Lobsinger, also chat about hockey in general, from NHL news to what equipment to buy on a budget; they try to engage with all hockey fans and not just diehard Red Wings like myself. I found this podcast a little over a year ago, and it has increased my sense of community in many ways; By a stroke of pure coincidence, all three hosts live and record in Kitchener! This circumstance was remarkable to me as my dad was the only other fan I knew. Growing up in Ontario, I could never find any Wings fans, no community. It always felt like my dad, and I endured endless swarms of Toronto Maple leaf fans. But now, this podcast is right in our backyard!
WWP (for short) is not just a podcast, as the show has a Patreon account, a platform to which fans donate a month to support the show and access even more Content. There’s a Discord chat room where all members can chat with the hosts. Also, since this local pod has become the Official Podcast of the Detroit Red Wings, They have Winged Wheel Nights at the arena in Detroit with tickets reduced and meet and greets with hosts and TV Broadcasters of the Red Wings.
So It is safe to say, as a local Kitchener and Communications student, I have offered to join the podcast as a volunteer and follow my passion! Objectively It is remarkable that a small local podcast has become a multi-platform and Offical partner of a pro team! That is
A shoutout to Justin for his Spittin Chicklet blog post; without that post, I would have picked a less passionate topic!
Objectively It is remarkable that a small local podcast has become a multi-platform and Offical partner of a pro team! Does anyone else follow local podcasts from their hometowns?
